JAKSTA For Mac Review
JAKSTA is a video recording and converting software for the Mac. Because Replay Media Catcher if for Windows only, I felt it necessary to search out a program for the Mac users out there and I found JAKSTA to be the best of the bunch.
I do own a Mac but I have never done any video and audio stuff with it until now. So how about we get into the details of this software, shall we?
What is JAKSTA for Mac?
JAKSTA is just like Replay Media Catcher in that it is capable of recording and downloading all kinds of videos off of internet websites.
If you’ve had the chance to read my review for Replay Media Catcher, you’ll notice how I mainly use it for downloading videos off of Youtube and other video sharing sites.
However, it can be used on any website that hosts video files.
For example, maybe you’re into sports – ESPN.com, and other sports websites that host videos, can be downloaded onto your computer easily with Jaskta.
Best of all, it’s made for the Mac.
MAC USERS - I’ve finally found the program for you!
Or maybe you want to download a TV show off of Hulu – Jaksta will do just that and more.
The reason that this is such a popular method these days is because people seem to convert every song ever made into some sort of video with text or pictures or whatever.
These video converting softwares make it really easy to take these videos and download the audio from them. But you don’t have to rip just the audio…
You can download the entire video onto your computer if you wish to save it. The option for audio only ripping is a feature as well.
How to Use JAKSTA
So you have the software on your Mac and you’re ready to install it.
It is a very basic install just like any other application so run this until it’s completed the installation process on your computer.
Once this has finished, launch the program.
As said earlier, this program will download almost every single video imaginable online just like Replay Media Catcher (which isn’t availabe for the Mac unfortunately).
(As as stated before, ripping just the audio from the videos is available as an option as well).
Think of it like this: Jaksta is a program that is designed to download media off of websites whether it’s video or audio or both.

As you can see from the image above, the software is very basic straight to the point – It gives you the name of the file you’re downloading, the site you downloaded the file from and the date completed.
Using the examples of the image, you’ll notice the name of the file on the left-hand side. In this case, Jaksta for Mac has completed downloading a Led Zepplin song.
Now take a look to the far right of the image – you’ll notice a website called Grooveshark. This is an online radio station that will play any music you select.
What Jaksta has done here is that it’s actually downloaded the song playing on Grooveshark to the computer. Pretty neat right?
Pandora is another internet radio website and as you can see in the image, Jaksta has also downloaded some files from this website as well.
And if you’re wondering what Lynda.com is, it’s basically the largest software video training website on the internet. Their tutorials are top-notch and they require a membership subscription to be able to have access.
With Jaksta, you can download these video tutorials to your computer for reference at a later time.
Like RPC, you simply browse to the website with the video or audio and it will automatically start downloading the files on the website that you’re currently browsing.
You also have an option to add the video straight into iTunes which is a neat feature.
It will then convert the videos into the default format.
If you choose to strip just the audio, it will grab that and give it to you in the default format.
Final Thoughts About Jaksta
All in all Jaksta runs very similar to Replay Media Catcher. It can download video files and audio files from any website you visit, and it’s easy to use.
While there is a Windows version, this program is best suited for the Mac due to the fact that RPC does more than enough for Windows and isn’t available for the Mac.
So if you’re a Mac user and you’re looking for a way to download your favorite Youtube videos, then check out the free JAKSTA demo available on the official site.
